Head of Engagement & Stewardship

We seek to hire a Head of Engagement & Stewardship responsible for the overall coordination of the engagement with companies’ activities of the Finance for Biodiversity (FfB) Foundation.

Location: Remote (EU/UK time zone only)

Start date: As soon as possible

 

About the role

In this role, you will support the leadership of the growing FfB Foundation Team and the overall mission to support a call to action and collaboration among financial institutions to contribute to reverse nature loss this decade.

On a daily basis, you will coordinate and oversee the activities of the Corporate Engagement working group, its subgroups, and the collaborative textile sector investor engagement initiative FABRIC. Your particular focus will be guiding investors in their stewardship activities to influence corporate behavior toward biodiversity goals.

Overall, you will follow the rapid developments in collaborative engagement with companies’ initiatives on biodiversity for the finance sector, engage with key stakeholders, partners, and represent the FfB Foundation in internal and external webinars and in-person events and summits.

You will collaborate with the co-chairs of the Engagement with Companies working group and work closely with the Associate Technical and Data, who will support you with the organisation of the working group meetings and technical analyses.

 

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate working group activities:
  • Overall coordination of the Engagement with Companies working group and subgroup(s), and the production of deliverables and actions in collaboration with the FfB members;
  • Collaborate with asset managers, asset owners, and other financial stakeholders to identify stewardship priorities and develop engagement strategies to influence corporate behavior through shareholder engagement.
  • Initiate, develop and support specific subgroup activities that execute the needs of FfB members in sharing knowledge on stewardship activities on nature;
  • Signal and address practical and strategic collaborative opportunities of the development in the areas of engagement with companies;
  • Develop yearly working plans to execute the working group activities together with the co-chairs of the Engagement working group;
  • Update the Guide on Engagement with Companies this year and supplement the Collaborative Engagements Overview yearly.
Lead FABRIC and other engagement activities:
  • Lead our own Investor Engagement initiative, FABRIC, to support FfB members in their collaborative engagement activities with a selection of companies in the textile sector;
  • Develop and implement methodologies for assessing the impact of investor engagement activities on corporate biodiversity practices and report these insights back to member institutions.
  • Monitor and report on the progress of corporate engagements, providing regular updates to stakeholders;
  • Support our activities at the Technical Advisory Group and the Science Council of Nature Action 100;
  • Initiate and coordinate specific collaborative engagement with companies’ programmes and the improvement of the biodiversity stewardship activities of FfB members.
Represent the FfB Foundation:
  • Present and represent the FfB Foundation during (online and in-person) events, webinars and in-person summits and seminars.

Skills and experience

We are looking for candidates with demonstrable knowledge, experience, and leadership that enables them to interact with investors and guide them with the following qualifications: 

  • Proven experience working with or for financial institutions on stewardship strategies, particularly with an emphasis on nature-related risks and opportunities;
  • An ability to work collaboratively with investors and partner organisations and independently in our high-performing team;
  • Strong results-focused, highly efficient leader who is self-starting and able to work at a fast pace;
  • A strong relationship-builder with good communication skills as well as clear presentation and connecting moderation skills;
  • Master’s degree;
  • At least 7 years of working experience in the area of finance and biodiversity;
  • Passionate about contributing to sustainability and nature recovery.

 

Contract

  • Initial one-year fixed-term contract with the potential for continued employment
  • Competitive salary based on your country of residence
  • For 32 / 40 hours a week
